Web Services

EOS.Web Web Services enables Web portals, internal HR systems, and other disparate 3rd party applications, such as order processing to seamlessly share patron information, bibliographic records, search results and categorized information.

Web Service-oriented applications provide cost-reducing opportunities and integration possibilities that are unique to your library or information center.

Enabling the connection between people, processes, and information, EOS.Web Enterprise Web Services can seamlessly integrate with Enterprise Portal software such as Microsoft SharePoint. Using the below services, you can target content to specific users or applications:

  • Use the authority service to get, add, update and delete authority records.
  • The bibliographic service to add, update and delete bibliographic records. This service can also be used to get the list of categories linked to a certain bib record and to add, update or delete one or more categories for a bib record.
  • Use the category service to get, delete, add and update category records. This service can also be used to retrieve the category tree with other bibliographic and web subscription data, and to get the Feed Description, Publication Code, and Categories for Ozmosys feeds.
  • Use the item service to get Real-time Availability Checking (RTAC). The service returns the item status by item ID or for all items linked to a bib record based on the bibliographic control number. The item status service is used to get item status information for a bibliographic control number.
  • Use the search service to search through the bibliographic catalog using Boolean expressions and multiple search fields.
  • The reference tracking service to add reference tracking questions. The service can also get reference tracking record information once the completed date in the record has passed (used with Elite).

If your library or information center is facing application integration challenges, EOS.Web Web Services offers the opportunity for you to:

  • Share information & knowledge more readily through open standards and common protocols.
  • The return on investment (ROI) on Web Services comes from the increased operational efficiency and reduced costs that are achieved by streamlining and automating business processes.

Built on Open Standards

Web Services is a cornerstone of the Microsoft .NET programming model. EOS has employed Web Services technologies throughout the development of EOS.Web, and supports Web Services via an Application Program Interface (API) as the optimal architecture to develop over a distributed infrastructure. It is easy for EOS.Web clients to implement EOS Web Services in the Visual Studio .NET environment, since Microsoft’s .NET environment treats Web Services similar to local references. Once you specify the address where the Web Service is hosted, .NET automatically generates all the objects needed for utilizing that service. EOS.Web supports two types of authentication: Windows and Forms. Alternatively, EOS.Web Enterprise clients can contract with EOS to create the programming interface that works for them.
